Gary
R. Epler, M.D.
Clinical Associate
Professor of Medicine
Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Gary Epler is clinician consultant, an author, and educator. He
is currently at the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine,
Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Dr. Epler holds a medical
degree from Tulane University School of Medicine and a public health
degree from Harvard University. He is board certified in internal
medicine and pulmonary medicine. Dr. Epler served with the Center
for Disease Control in Atlanta and has been a consultant for the Social
Security Administration. Dr. Epler was the Chairman of Medicine at
the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston for 15 years. Dr. Epler
is the Editor-in-Chief of an Internet-based educational program in
Critical
Care and Pulmonary Medicine.
He has been a visiting professor in Europe and at Kyoto University
in Japan. Dr. Epler described a lung disorder named bronchiolitis
obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP)
in 1985. This disorder is the basis of international research and
study with 770 published articles from throughout the world. Dr. Epler
has developed a lively interactive web site "What's
BOOP?" ,"What's
IPF?", and "What's
Sarcoidosis?" for patients and their families at www.epler.com.
Dr. Epler has developed a systems approach for the three generations
of quality management in healthcare and has lectured worldwide on
this subject. He has been the president of the Massachusetts Thoracic
Society and president of the New England States Chapter of the American
College of Chest Physicians. Dr. Epler has been listed in "The
Best Doctors in America 2005-2006", and in the Top Doctors in
Town", Boston Magazine. He has edited a book about occupational
lung diseases. He has published a book, Diseases of the Bronchioles,
about the bronchiolar diseases. Business Week acclaimed Dr. Epler
for his work in developing e-Health patient management programs.
Dr. Epler is a
frequent guest in radio and television. He has written more than 100
scientific articles and presented more than 350 lectures and seminars
throughout the United States and the world. Dr. Epler is active in
his community as a coach of soccer, basketball, and baseball.
